Our doors are always open to anyone who would like to join us for our Sunday service:
East County Shared Ministry (which consists of both Community Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg & First Congregational Church of Antioch) is the progressive, welcoming and affirming congregation in East County that welcomes everyone - and we mean EVERYONE! Please see the 8 Points below for more information. We are affiliated with all of the welcoming and affirming ministries in the PC (USA) - More Light Presbyterians, That All May Freely Serve, and the Covenant Network of Presbyterians as well as the UCC (The UCC Coalition of LGBT Concerns). Our welcome includes those of every racial ethnic heritage, educational level, and social class.
We share ministry with our sister congregation since 1865, First Congregational Church of Antioch (UCC). We hope you will join us for a Sunday celebration some week at 10:00 am to experience our extravagant welcome. We are a multicultural church in the PC (USA) and UCC traditions, which invites individuals and families of every kind and shape to our open communion celebration on the first Sunday of each month. The Calendar link above lists all of our Shared Ministry events, with fuller descriptions of our activities below.
When we say all are welcome, we mean it!! We are working to make it better now for all by living out Jesus' message of radical hospitality for all.
Our Shared Ministry with First Congregational Church of Antioch is expressed each Sunday as we share our worship and education lives together. We continue to meet regularly about what it would mean to merge our two congregations, while retaining both of our denominational identities . Our Shared Ministry Facebook Page can be viewed here. Please go on and like it for updates on church events.
CPC & FCCA together are truly community churches, being the first Protestant congregations in Pittsburg and Antioch respectively, welcoming those of multiple church backgrounds to be the unique, open, caring community that it is. CPC is the product of the 1971 merger of Community Congregational Church of Pittsburg (UCC, established 1864) and the First United Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg (PC (USA), established 1953). FCCA is the oldest church in Antioch (established in 1865), and the first to welcome African-American members in the region. We are a diverse, welcoming and affirming church family that values the traditions from which we have come, while looking to the future that God is calling us toward.
The primary terms we use describe ourselves with is family and community, sharing in each other's joys and struggles, so please take a while to get to know us here and then come out to one of our events. We are sure you will find your place in the family of God here!
Together we serve,
Pastor Christy Parks-Ramage and Pastor Will McGarvey

We are in a covenant of shared ministry with our sister congregation, First Congregational Church of Antioch, who sold their building on Tregallas Rd. in Antioch in December, 2010.
“Community Presbyterian Church and First Congregational Church agree to embark on a continued exploration of shared ministry that will enrich, enhance and strengthen their collective progressive ministry to our congregations, our community and the world at large. As two congregations sharing space, we hope to realize the incarnation of God’s love within our hearts and beyond the walls of our churches to bring new hope for all. Wherever there is loneliness, injustice or misunderstanding may we open our hearts and allow God’s healing love to flow through us into the world. We will strive to maintain the heritage and identity of our history while blending the brightest and best of both to God’s glory.”
Who We Are: A Progressive Christian Church in East County! CPC is affiliated with the Center for Progressive Christianity, affirming the 8 Points. You will find God's welcome here among us.
"By calling ourselves progressive, we mean that we are Christians who…
1Have found an approach to God through the life and teachings of Jesus,
2 Recognize the faithfulness of other people who have other names for the way to God’s realm, and acknowledge that their ways are true for them, as our ways are true for us,
3 Understand the sharing of bread and wine in Jesus’s name to be a representation of an ancient vision of God’s feast for all peoples,
4 Invite all people to participate in our community and worship life without insisting that they become like us in order to be acceptable
(including but not limited to):
believers and agnostics,
conventional Christians and questioning skeptics,
women and men,
those of all sexual orientations and gender identities,
those of all races and cultures,
those of all classes and abilities,
those who hope for a better world and those who have lost hope;
5 Know that the way we behave toward one another and toward other people is the fullest expression of what we believe,
6 Find more grace in the search for understanding than we do in dogmatic certainty - more value in questioning than in absolutes;
7 Form ourselves into communities dedicated to equipping one another for the work we feel called to do: striving for peace and justice among all people, protecting and restoring the integrity of all God’s creation, and bringing hope to those Jesus called the least of his sisters and brothers; and
8 Recognize that being followers of Jesus is costly, and entails selfless love, conscientious resistance to evil, and renunciation of privilege."

MISSION STATEMENT OF THE MORE LIGHT PRESBYTERIANS:
"Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of faith in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA)."
Affirmed by the Session of CPC on September, 27, 2011.
CALL TO COVENANT OF THE COVENANT NETWORK OF PRESBYTERIANS:
As disciples of Jesus Christ and members of the Presbyterian Church (USA), in reliance on the promise of God’s grace, we make the following affirmations about our faith and our church:
We affirm faith in Jesus Christ who proclaimed the reign of God by preaching good news to the poor, binding up the broken-hearted and calling all to repent and believe the good news. It is Christ whose life and ministry form and discipline all we say and do.
The church we seek to strengthen is built upon the hospitality of Jesus, who said, “Whoever comes to me I will not cast out.” The good news of the gospel is that all — those who are near and those who were far off — are invited; all are members of the household and citizens of the realm of God. No one has a claim on this invitation and none of us becomes worthy, even by sincere effort to live according to God’s will. Grateful for our own inclusion, we carry out the mission of the church to extend God’s hospitality to a broken and fearful and lonely world.
The people of God are called to be “light to the nations.” As God’s people, we have a commission rather than a privilege. We believe that the place of the church is in the world and for the world: living the good news, proclaiming grace, working with others for justice, freedom and peace. Thus Christian faith has an inevitable public and political dimension. Because we believe that God is at work in culture and community beyond the church, the church need not be afraid to look and listen for God’s voice from outside its own sphere.
The words of scripture provide life and nourishment; as the psalmist says, they are desirable, delicious, sweet. The Bible is the evidence of God’s long, patient and persistent relationship with communities and persons of faith. It is the one true, reliable witness to God’s self-giving in Jesus Christ. The process of discerning God’s Word in the words of scripture depends on the faithful reading of the Bible by those who seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We are committed to the ongoing task of finding in scripture God’s call to live out the Christian life in our day and time. We embrace gifts of scholarship, research and dialogue as we seek to understand the Bible’s relevance to the ever-changing needs of the world and to circumstances which scripture does not explicitly address.
We seek the gift of unity among all who confess the name of Jesus Christ as Lord. Unity is Christ’s prayer for those who would follow him, “so that the world might believe.” We hope to maintain communion fellowship with all whose lives are guided by the Christian creeds and by the confessions of Reformed faith. We pledge to strengthen our ties to those who are at risk of being excluded by recent legislative actions of our church. We also want to live in unity with those whose views are different from ours.
Because nothing in life or death can separate us from God’s love, we pray that the issues
before us will not separate us from one another.
COVENANT STATEMENT
Therefore we covenant together to:
1. welcome, in the name of Christ, all whom God calls into community and leadership in God’s church;
2. reach out in solidarity and compassion to all who are wounded or excluded by recent legislative actions of our church;
3. continue to be faithful to the Presbyterian Church (USA), supporting its mission in Christ’s name to God’s world;
4. reaffirm our denomination’s historic understanding that “God alone is Lord of the conscience” (G-1.0301) both for ourselves and for those with whom we disagree;
5. trust sessions and presbyteries to ordain those called by God, through the voice of the church, who are “persons of strong faith, dedicated discipleship, and love of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord” and whose “manner of life demonstrates the Christian gospel in the church and the world” (G-6.0106a);
6. seek pastoral and theological solutions to division in the church;
7. maintain dialogue, study, and prayer in the spirit of Christ with those with whom we differ, seeking to understand the deeper roots of our disagreements;
8. seek God’s will for the Church through the presence of Christ, the study of scripture, the guidance of our historic confessions, and the dynamic work of the Holy Spirit;
9. encourage officers and governing bodies of the church to join us in this covenant.
As we covenant together in Christ, we commit ourselves to encourage one another through prayer, counsel, and mutual support, through times of challenge, controversy, and hope.
