Our doors are always open to anyone who would like
to join us for our Sunday service:

Thanks for visiting our church website.  You may notice that we are updating the site more regularly, with a list of upcoming events listed below.

I share some of my personal musings on a blog at http://willymac4.blogspot.com in which you are welcome to participate.  Feel free to read and respond to my irreverent thoughts on the church, the christian life, and our loves.  There is a "Comment" link underneath each entry where you can respond and share what you think.

CPC is truly a community church, welcoming those of multiple church backgrounds to be the unique, open, caring community that it is. CPC is the product of the 1971 merger of Community Congregational Church of Pittsburg – UCC, established 1864, and the First United Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg – PC (USA), established 1953. We are a diverse church family that values the traditions from which we have come, while looking to the future that God is calling us toward.

If you would like to see a bit about the recent mission trip to Israel-Palestine a few members of our church and I participated in, please visit: http://keephopealiveca.blogspot.com

The primary term we at CPC describe ourselves with is family, sharing in each other's joys and struggles, so please take a while to get to know us here and then come out to one of our events. I am sure you will find your place in the family of God here!

Pastor Will McGarvey

Today at CPC:

Church and Society LGBT Film Series: In celebration of Black History Month, tonight's film presentation will be "Brother Outsider: the life of Bayard Rustin" Thursday, February 25th at 7:00 pm in the Stoneman Room. As a gay man, Rustin was the "unsung hero" of the Civil Rights Movement who counseled Dr. King about the techniques of non-violent resistance. This new documentary is based on primary research of Rustin's papers.

Sunday's Alternative Worship Service is a celebration of our African-American Heritage with song and dance in the Social Hall.  Don't miss it.

Who We Are:  A Progressive Christian Church in East County!
CPC is affiliated with the Center for Progressive Christianity, affirming the 8 Points.  You will find God's welcome here among us.

    "By calling ourselves progressive, we mean that we are Christians who…

1  Have found an approach to God through the life and teachings of Jesus,

2  Recognize the faithfulness of other people who have other names for the way to God’s realm, and acknowledge that their ways are true for them, as our ways are true for us,

Understand the sharing of bread and wine in Jesus’s name to be a representation of an ancient vision of God’s feast for all peoples,

4  Invite all people to participate in our community and worship life without insisting that they become like us in order to be acceptable
(including but not limited to):
believers and agnostics,
conventional Christians and questioning skeptics,
women and men,
those of all sexual orientations and gender identities,
those of all races and cultures,
those of all classes and abilities,
those who hope for a better world and those who have lost hope;

5  Know that the way we behave toward one another and toward other people is the fullest expression of what we believe,

6  Find more grace in the search for understanding than we do in dogmatic certainty - more value in questioning than in absolutes;

7  Form ourselves into communities dedicated to equipping one another for the work we feel called to do: striving for peace and justice among all people, protecting and restoring the integrity of all God’s creation, and bringing hope to those Jesus called the least of his sisters and brothers; and

Recognize that being followers of Jesus is costly, and entails selfless love, conscientious resistance to evil, and renunciation of privilege."
